Businesses have deployed Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) in production. However, many AVD environments are still not utilizing full capabilities of FSLogix and Windows 10/Windows 11 or these AVD environments might be missing recommended settings. We have designed AVD Assessment Tool that can be used to perform assessment of complete AVD environment and provide an Assessment Report which includes issues and recommendations to fix the issues.

SmartProfiler AVD Assessment supports multiple AVD Tenants. Register your and your customers AVD Tenant and perform the Assessment.
Use SmartProfiler AVD Assessment as a benchmark and perform assessment as and when required to ensure all settings are applied correctly. You can also perform AVD Assessment on an AVD Image and before spinning up Session Host VMs from AVD Image.
Multiple Assessment Templates allow you to maintain configuration for several host pools or your customer host pools. You can modify the setting in each AVD Assessment Template > target the host pool and then perform the assessment.
AVD Environments need to be analyzed with various parameters. The SmartProfiler AVD Assessment tool can help you figure out missing settings in your AVD environment. SmartProfiler AVD Assessment Tool can look into below parameters:
AVD Assessment can show you all settings for all host pools in a single view to help you understand if there are any misconfiguration for any of the host pools and if the settings are applied correctly.
Assessment Results are available under “Summary-Host Pools” tab. For each Host Pool you can see the AVD Assessment Results. The result will show if you have the settings configured correctly and how many settings have not been configured correctly in each AVD Category. For example, “Are Session Hosts Optimized for Logon?” AVD Category the current host pool is configured with only “3” settings and “13” settings are not configured which are recommended for optimizing the logon process for user.
AVD Assessment Tool can be used by meeting simple assessment requirements
AVD Assessment Inputs can be provided in the Configuration pane of AVD Assessment View. The AVD Assessment is performed based on the AVD Assessment inputs provided by you and then suggest the best AVD settings that need to be configured in your AVD environment.
Misconfigured RDP Properties on host pool can also lead to performance issues in AVD environment. There are also RDP Properties which should be disabled in a highly secure AVD environments.
The RDP Properties Explorer lets you see all RDP Properties configured for all Host Pools. However, before you can see the RDP Properties you are required to collect RDP Properties from all host pools by navigating to “COLLECT” Tab and then click on “Execute” button to collect the RDP Properties. Once the RDP Properties have been collected, go to “Summary” tab to see the properties. The definition of each RDP Property configured in host pool is given in the right pane grid.
SmartProfiler AVD Assessment lets you modify AVD Assessment Template settings to ensure settings and its value that you have configured are checked against an AVD environment. For example, you may wish to modify some FSLogix Profile Container Settings that will serve as a benchmark for your assessment. There are 567 settings configured in an Assessment Template.
AVD Assessment is performed by settings configured in an AVD Assessment Template. To create an AVD Assessment Template, click on “PLUS” sign. Once click you will be asked to provide
Note the AVD Assessment will use VM Script Extension Method if the there is no Direct Access to Session Host Network from SmartProfiler Computer.
Once done click on the CREATE TEMPLATE button to create the Assessment Template.
AVD Optimizer is designed to help you optimize AVD Images from a Template which is managed by the SmartProfiler and is recommended by Microsoft for VDI Environment. To open the AVD Optimizer, expand the Assessment View and then click on the “AVD Optimization Templates”.
AVD Optimizer works with AVD Optimization Templates. You can create unlimited Optimization Templates, and each template can have different settings.
The Generate-Report Tab lets you generate an AVD Assessment report for scoped host pools. You can generate Technical and business executive reports which include overall status of the AVD environment, missing settings, settings score and other items as necessary.

We learned a lot during deployment, and it was a pleasure to collaborate with the customer on AVD deployment.
